It has been a while since I've added new wooden products to the website. This is due to a very special project that is are currently in process and is getting the full devotion of my time.
A close friends father passed at the end of last year and we have been commissioned to build his urn. Not only is this a huge honor and responsibility, but also it is also coupled with some unique challenges and specific size limitations. This urn will be interred within Arlington Cemetery.
Unlike our usual lathed wood projects, the urn is being built with boards of two different wood species - the sides from Australian Blackwood, the top and bottom from Sandalwood.
I am making good progress on the urn, the sides have been assembled, shaped (there is a curve on the outside faces), sanded and ready for some oil to bring out the natural colors of the wood. The top of the urn is glued up and ready for shaping. The biggest element to build at this point is the bottom of the urn, which will also be where you have access to the inside.
I will post some photos of the urn as it gets closer to being finished. In the meantime, thank you for your patience and understanding as I work on this extraordinarily special project.
